The Brainerd Bells
Brainerd Bells plays 3-5 times a year in service, special appearances and at festivals. The Brainerd Bells is a handbell ensemble made up of ringers from all musical experience levels. We ring five octaves of Malmark handbells and four octaves of Malmark choirchimes, and we share our music in the worship service at various times throughout the year. While music reading experience is very helpful, it is not necessary. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:00pm in the bell room (lower level of the sanctuary). If you are interested in joining the ensemble and/or learning the basics of handbell ringing, please contact Gary Bynum at Gary_Bynum@BCBST.com.
The Gospel Jam
The Gospel Jam is open to any acoustic musician at any level of expertise. We usually play folk instruments, but sometimes have musicians with clarinets, flutes, or even the harp! The Jam is a great opportunity to learn proper timing and to play by ear. The first hour is Gospel music. After a break for refreshments, there is an hour of playing any genre of music. Both segments of the Jam are structured like a typical jam session with musicians sitting in a U-shape or circle arrangement and each getting a turn to play, sing, or pass. The Jam is fun for both musicians and those who listen and sing along! Please view the Gospel Jam video under the Worship Services Tab.
The praise band plays normally every week in the worship service at 9:30 AM. If you are interested in singing or playing in the band, please contact Roberta Bishop at Choir@brainerdumc.org.
